Task/Challenge
Replacement of shale shakers on 3 platform rigs required new control systems with improved functionality.
Customer expectations
Computerized shale shaker control systems with ESD level backup functionality and frequency adjustment possibilities to avoid resonance vibrations in platform deck delivered on a fast-track schedules.
Trade Tech delivery
PLC based control systems for shale shakers with optimized and intuitive control and monitoring of the mud handling process. The systems were delivered as “freestanding” systems with computer-based HMI (Human Machine Interface) for convenient location of operator stations meeting applicable HSE requirements and with option to interface other parts of the mud handling system and/or Drilling Control Network (DCN).
The systems are designed with manual back-up operation possibilities and parts of the systems are ATEX zone 1 certified allowing for continuous operation in an ESD situation.
Achievements
Met HSE requirements for operation of equipment in challenging environment. Resonance vibrations in platform decks avoided. Possibility for continuous operation of shale shaker system with ESD shutdown of LER supply.
During extended function test that included customer provided shale shakers, non-conformances to Norsok standards were discovered and corrected by Trade Tech prior to shipment offshore.
Smooth installation, commissioning and start-up of the systems offshore meeting customer’s requested fast-track completion date.
